To understand how special Leo and his brother and sister are you need to know about their mum and Dad. Matthew and Charlotte are special people. Thats easy to say as a mum, of course they are, they are mine after all.But no these two are different. Matt has always been happy go lucky ! As a young man Matt could have the worst day in the world and still come home smiling! always optimistic. Matt is a natural father, its that simple! I am so proud of him for that one thing, because it is a real rare gift. Charlotte also is the original Earth Mother, being a mum is as natural to her as breathing. What children could hope for a better start in life than this. I am not saying their perfect, they have their moments but if all family's were like them then the world would be a much better place. Mercifully, very few of us have to deal with what has been thrown at these two. Plenty would simply give up, and who could blame them. I have protected Matt as best as I can for all his life. I have always tried to sort what ever came his way and still love the fact that he picks the phone up when problems come his way and I do the best I can to solve them, after all that's my job!! But then this happened, how can I protect my boy when he has lost his boy? How can I put this right? Where's my plan to solve this? For the first time I am utterly useless. No amount of money juggling, hugging or anything else is going to put this right. I am grieving for my grandson and my son and just feel so useless. I want the pain to stop but I cant, I want to take the pain off him and make it all OK again, but i cant, I feel so useless. Next comes my fear that Matt wont be able to cope. Who the hell could ? He has a little girl nearly three, confused as to what has happened, he has lost his first born son, and his little brother is still in Neonatal and not out of the woods yet ? On top of this there is now a funeral to arrange, death certificates and birth certificates to sort all at the same time, this is beyond anyone surely? What saved Matt is Charlotte and what saved Charlotte is Matt. Matt is not a talker when it comes to feelings, his answer is "Im fine" no matter what. Thankfully Charlotte is quite the opposite, try and get something past her and she will hunt you down! and she will get it out of you. This perfect combination sees them through. To watch this relationship work and protect one another, was a revelation, a small chink of light in a very dark time. If Matt couldn't face something then Charlotte would step up, equally when Charlotte couldn't Matt was there, they worked in unison.
